Seeking local Tucson playwright submissions - Beowulf Alley's Out to Lunch Theatre

Beowulf Alley’s Out to Lunch Theatre - Let’s Talk About Summer in Tucson

(Tucson, AZ – Dec. 16, 2008) BEOWULF ALLEY THEATRE, 11 South 6th Avenue, is seeking local Tucson playwright submissions for their ongoing Out to Lunch Theatre series. We are seeking light-hearted plays about summer in Tucson or the surrounding summer retreats. OTL THEATRE opens each month with a new theme. Performances are from 12:15 to 12:45 on Wednesdays. Lunch may be purchased from Beowulf via phone or online at www.beowulfalley.org and picked up at the theatre, or audience members may choose to brown bag it with their own fare.

GUIDELINES:

Playwrights—please submit a play based on Summer in or around Tucson (or escapes to cooler retreats around Tucson). Length of play: 15-25 minutes. Maximum number of actors/characters: 4. Minimal set and props, please.

Submission Deadline is MIDNIGHT, May 22, 2009. If your piece is selected, you will be notified via email no later than May 29, 2009. There are no fees for submission and no royalty paid for production.

Beowulf Alley Theatre at 11, South 6th Avenue will hold its monthly Reader’s Theatre on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:15 p.m. Admission is pay-what-you-will. Please join us for the reading of Dawn Seller’s play Frozen Heart. Listen to the story and stay to offer your questions, comments and suggestions to the playwright following the reading. Become an active participant in the development of a local writer’s play.

 

 

More Local Playwrights Wanted! Beowulf Alley Theatre is accepting full length, one acts and short plays for inclusion in it's Readers Theater Program. Audition - Beowulf Alley Theatre's production of Rabbit Hole

Seeking a female actor to play Nat in Beowulf Alley Theatre's production of Rabbit Hole (Fall 2009 rehearsal/performance).  Age range is mid 50s - 60s.

Sheldon Metz is a recent immigrant to Tucson (from Los Angeles). Sheldon has been active in professional and community theatre for 48 years. He is an multi-award-winning actor/director/set designer. In November, he directed the World Premiere of Noche de los Muertos for BATC, followed in April, 2009, by the highly acclaimed, Proof. In L.A., he was founder and executive director of A.C.C.T., too! (The Association of Community and Commercial Theatres), and served as producing director for the P.K.E., Professional Playreading Series. Sheldon directs theatre for the love of it and with the permission of his wife, Linda, whom he thanks especially for this one.

Warren G. Bodow, a part-time Tucson resident since 2005, has written a number of plays presented at Beowulf Alley and at other theaters in Tucson. Most recently, his new full-length play Race Music was presented as a staged reading in connection with Beowulf Alley’s Reader’s Theater. Mr. Bodow’s three short plays about Valentine’s Day were the February offerings for Beowulf Alley’s Out to Lunch Theater. His full-length play, Harry the Hunk on His Way Out, was stage read at Beowulf Alley prior to its New York Equity Showcase run in 2007. Mr. Bodow, a retired radio executive, lives with his wife, Ellen, in Tucson and in New York City.
