Beowulf Alley Theatre Holds Special Auditions & Call for Designers and Technicians

 

 

(Tucson, AZ – July 23, 2009) Beowulf Alley Theatre Company announces special auditions to take place for a Main Stage play and Late Night Theatre, LNT@the Alley on Saturday, August 1, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday, August 2, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Beowulf Alley Theatre is located at 11 South 6^th Ave, Downtown Tucson between Broadway and Congress. We are also looking for stage managers, costumes, props, sound, lighting, carpenters and other production positions. Main Stage

 

Seascape by Edward Albee, directed by Michael Fenlason. This romantic comedy, with mature themes, and the 1975 Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama, needs actors who can play the following characters:

 

1 man: mid-50’s to the beginning of retirement age

1 man: 20’s or older who is physically fit and can withstand a lot of floor movement.

 

1 woman: mid-50’s to the beginning of retirement age

1 woman: 20’s or older who is physically fit and can withstand a lot of floor movement.

 

Actors will use sides from the script that will be provided at the audition. We encourage you to arrive a little early for review. Rehearsals will begin the week of August 9. The rehearsal schedule will be determined once the play is cast to reasonably accommodate the production team’s work/life schedules. All participants must be available for technical rehearsals the week prior to the first public performance. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays, 7:30 p.m., Sundays, 1:30 p.m. beginning on Friday, September 25 and closing on October 11, 2009. Roles and Production positions are compensated.

 

THE STORY: A mature couple on a deserted beach is discussing life, love and marriage. Charlie sees rest in his future while Nancy seeks new adventures. Their solitude is broken by an encounter with a very unusual and strange couple, Leslie and Sarah, also contemplating major life changes. Once the couples recover from mutual surprise and fear, the two couples engage in conversation, sharing thoughts and ideas that lead to finding resolutions to their future life journeys.

Description:  The evening will focus on the ridiculous, ironic, rude, bawdy and bureaucratic shenanigans of The University of Arizona from the Late Successful Period (NCAA Championship) to the Season of the Cuts and Tuition Raises, emphasizing concepts of absurdity, ribaldry and alcohol as demonstrated in administration, faculty and student.
Grading:  Mildly. Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E.

(Tucson, AZ-July 15, 2009) Beowulf Alley Theatre’s LNT@the Alley presents Lily Black’s Anthems with music by Naaji, for your late night live theatre enjoyment.

Anthems tells the funny, sad, terrifying story of a group of friends affected by the Iraqi war. In one extended game of “I Have Never”, four friends confront their fears and losses. Songs composed by recording artist Naaji.

Directed by Michael Fenlason, the cast includes Brandy Bellais, Jay Cotner, Kim Eichling, Sam Galsch, Liberty Huskey and Sarah K Smith.

The play will run on July 17, 18. 24 and 25, 2009 at 10:30 PM. This production contains adult content. No one under the age of 17 will be admitted. 'Bible Belt' reception to raise funds for EON Youth Lounge

Enjoy a night with Paul Bonin-Rodriguez, the playwright of the nationally acclaimed "Talk of the Town" and "The Bible Belt...and other Accessories", director Kevin Johnson, and the young star of the Tucson productions, Ryan DeLuca.

Both shows are one-man plays about a teenager in a small Texas town coming out, and were performed in Tucson in recent years. "Bible Belt, " which won 2008 Arizona Daily Star MAC Award for both Best Comedy and Best Actor will return for limited run in August. "Talk..." and "Bible Belt..." are part of a sequence five plays about the same young man as he matures, and are reflections of the playwright's life. There will be a reception with light refreshments following the talk.


Sponsored by Arizona Onstage Productions, this event is a pay-what-you-can event so everyone can enjoy the evening. A portion of proceeds will benefit Wingspan's Youth and Family Programs.

This event will be held at Beowulf Alley Theatre, 11 South 6th Avenue on July 18, 2009 from 6:00-8:30pm.

Beowulf Alley Theatre has a passion for the downtown art scene, a slew of volunteers, a retrofitted theatre, and a firecracker of a performer. What Beowulf needs now is an audience to appreciate all of the heart and what it calls "home grown talent" in this year's benefit concert, "Takin' You Back."

Beth Dell, managing director for Beowulf and a UA theatre alumna, said jazz vocalist Liz Cracchiolo is fun and energetic with a great heart. For the fifth consecutive year, Cracchiolo, who is the star of the yearly benefit concert, will be confirming Dell's praises by singing reinterpreted classics for charity. She usually sings to benefit Tee Up for Tots, a local non-profit providing research in the battle against pediatric cancer. This year she added the Beowulf Alley Theatre to receive part of the proceeds as well.

According to Dell, this new funding for Beowulf is important in helping to revitalize the downtown community, in which the arts are a fundamental catalyst for this kind of progress.

"I was raised in community theatre and believe strongly in grassroots community as the step to enhancing not only the quality of art but the quality of life," Dell said.

The concert will be an intimate affair for Cracchiolo and the audience in the 95-seat theatre. One can tell from having a conversation in the space where Cracchiolo will perform, that the acoustics are ideal for her sonorous and spirited vocals. Her songs fuse pop, jazz, and rock, lending to the event's theme of reintroducing songs that the audience may already know in a new, rich audial perspective.

The foodies in the audience can count on tasty treats during the concert's reception provided by local restaurants Elle, Cup Café, and Jax Kitchen.

"(This concert is) a great way to do something very positive for our community and enjoy some terrific entertainment," Dell said.
